TEENAGE midfielder Jordan Simpson has left Swindon Town to sign for League Two rivals Forest Green Rovers today.

The 18-year-old, the son of former County Ground favourite Fitzroy Simpson, was one of three youngsters - along with Scott Twine and Tommy Ouldridge - offered professional deals earlier this summer ahead of the 2017-18 season.

However, the Gloucestershire-based club confirmed this afternoon that they had made Simpson, who had been with Town since the age of six, their 10th signing of the summer on a two-year deal, following their promotion to the EFL.

The Swindon Advertiser understands that no fee was involved and that no compensation or sell-on fee was involved in the deal.

Simpson linked up with former Town boss Mark Cooper at the New Lawn, as well as Scott Linday, with whom he worked closely while at the County Ground.

The teenager said: said: “I’m buzzing. I’m over the moon to be playing under Mark Cooper again”

“I know the staff here, I know they take good care of young players and will hopefully give me the opportunity to express myself”

Cooper added: “Jordan’s a really exciting young player – he’s box to box, he’s good on the ball and he’s a nice lad, so he should be a good addition to the squad.

“Scott and I have worked with him already at Swindon and we’re looking forward to seeing him take the next step here and challenge for games in League Two.”

Academy graduates Twine, Ouldridge and Simpson all linked up with David Flitcroft's Town squad at the start of pre-season having been offered their deals, but only Twine has featured in summer matches for Town.
