TEAM manager Neil Shardlow is hungry to see Wiltshire extend their Unicorns Championship unbeaten streak, although he admits a stiff proposition awaits them at reigning champions Berkshire this weekend.

Wiltshire’s emphatic 218-run success at home to Dorset last time out followed up their season-opening draw in a rain-affected match at Oxfordshire.

Ed Young’s troops also won three and drew one of their final four fixtures last summer, meaning they have not lost over the longer format of the game in more than a year.

Wiltshire are third in the Western Division, just two points off top spot, with that place occupied by the side they face next.

The proposition looks even stiffer considering Berkshire won the competition outright last summer and have not lost a three-day match since 2014.

However, Shardlow says his side will travel to Falkland CC in Newbury without any trepidation ahead of the start of the match on Sunday.

“We’ve been building momentum since the end of last season. The three games we played (last year), we were putting positive results together,” said Shardlow.

“This year, the team looks a lot stronger. There have been a couple of additions to the team, like Jake Goodwin and Brannon Varley as well as Steve Bullen coming back in, that have added a little bit of extra quality to the team. I think we have got a very strong side.

“We’re disappointed we didn’t finish the game at Oxford when we were in a fairly decent position. I think we could have won that game and we could have been sitting on two wins from two.

“Now we are getting ready for a massive game up at Berkshire. They will be strong there, they are a very professional outfit and they are a decent side. They have got a good structure there.

“It’s going to be a big game and all the guys are eager and raring to go.”

Wiltshire have selected the same team that beat Dorset in their last match.
