GOATACRE made it two wins on the spin when they picked up a 65-run success over Burbage & Easton Royal in Premier Two Glos/Wilts.

After being put into bat, the home side reached 245 before being bowled out, with Brad Dawson hitting 84, while Benny Howell chipped in with 57.

The visitors only had one standout performer with the ball as captain David Cope claimed 5-49.

Luke Edwards (4-44) and Josh Langley (3-43) led the charge when the Goats got their hands of the ball, dismissing Burbage for 180 as Sourish Mukherjee top scored with 45.

Victorious captain Ed Wilkins said: “We lost the toss and Burbage decided to put us into bat, which we were quite happy about but we didn’t get off to a great start.

“We were struggling a little bit, just like we have been in the last few weeks, but luckily, Benny Howell and Brad Dawson had a really good partnership.

“That put us in a really strong position and we managed to get to 245, which we were happy about.

“In the last two or three weeks, we haven’t been batting well early on and we keep losing wickets, which hasn’t been good.”

Despite the slow start, Wilkins believes strength in depth has been a real positive for the Goats, who sit second in the standings, behind Cheltenham, who they face this Saturday.

“We are quite lucky that we bat all the way down to nine, 10 and 11 so even if we do lose those early wickets we are still in the game,” added Wilkins. “That’s where we have some strength in depth, because we can bat all of the way down our order.

“I hope we can keep our form going and turn it on against Cheltenham. If we can get a win on Saturday, who knows where we can go from there.”

Chippenham were also in action and claimed a 99-run win at home to Biddestone on Saturday.

After winning the toss, they decided to bat and posted a total of 256-all out, in which skipper Oli Jones came agonisingly close to a century with an unbeaten 99.

The visitors never really troubled the target they had been set by Jones’ troops and they were dismissed for 179 in reply.
