SWINDON Robins chief Alun Rossiter has revealed Troy Batchelor will return to the Abbey Stadium for Thursday’s home clash with Wolverhampton Wolves, as a replacement for the injured Jason Doyle.

Doyle has been ruled out of action for this week’s home SGB Premiership fixture after the Aussie broke three metatarsals in his right foot whilst riding for his Polish side, Zielona Gora.

Despite being named in Australia’s World Cup team, the 31-year-old will not risk aggravating the injury after having an operation last Saturday.

Batchelor, who left the club at the end of the 2015 season, has been in scintillating form so far this campaign, as he picked up 15 points at the Abbey when guesting for Rye House earlier this month.

Robins team manager Rossiter is adamant his former captain is more than up for the job on Thursday evening.

“He’s had a good couple of meetings here this year, he got a full house at Belle Vue on Friday and is riding well at the moment,” said Rossiter. “Everybody knows that I am a fan of him, while sometimes he didn’t endear himself to the Swindon fans - I need him.

“Looking at his form and what he has done around the Abbey, he is in good form so I think he will be a good replacement.” Swindon’s Nick Morris is also a fitness doubt as he awaits the results of a brain scan today to see if he can ride on Thursday after he suffered concussion when riding for the Berwick Bandits on Friday.

Despite, Speedway GB regulations on concussion protocols stating that riders, who are aged over 20, must have a nine-day rest, Rossiter remains hopeful that Morris will be passed fit.

He said: “He is going for a brain scan and if he passes that and the neurologist says that he is fit enough to ride, then really he should be fit enough to ride.”
