SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell has drafted in help on the sidelines in the form of netminding coach Daniel Brabon.

The Cardiff Devils coach, who works with Great Britain international Ben Bowns and former Wildcats minder Tom Murdy, will remain with the Elite League outfit but will also put his hand to working with Swindon’s two new netminder recruits Renny Marr and Matt Smital.

Both have been brought to the club this summer following the departures of Stevie Lyle and Michael Crisp, and Nell admitted the departure of the veteran netminder sparked a change in tack from the Wildcats.

“When we found out about Stevie, we thought it was important to invest in our goalies and Dan,” said Nell.

“Cardiff have two good British goalies in Ben Bowns and Tom Murdy, and he is confident he’s going to be able to help ours.

“There are not enough goalie coaches around and Dan is one of the better ones in the country.

“I can give them personal guidance but I cannot give them technical advice, which Dan will be able to do.

“Dan is going to be a very important part of our club.”

Speaking ahead of beginning work in Swindon, Brabon is extremely excited to be linking up with Aaron and the Wildcats.

“Talking to Aaron, and talking about the vision he had for the Wildcats, it was a really easy opportunity for me to accept.

“I have been involved with the Cardiff Devils for the last three seasons and I think I was the exception, now we are at a point where goalie coaches will become commonplace.”
