SKIPPER Jason Doyle is hoping Swindon Robins can get their home form on track when they host Somerset Rebels this evening (5pm).

Alun Rossiter’s team are yet to win a league meeting at the Abbey Stadium, with a Knockout Cup success over Rye House Rockets the only time the home faithful have tasted victory.

In stark contrast, Swindon have picked up 10 points on their travels and Doyle cannot pin down the reason behind the conflicting form.

“It’s getting a bit frustrating to always get a point or do so well away and then get smoked at home,” he said.

“It hasn’t been going our way but we have got some good things that are going to come out of it. All of the boys, it’s not like they’re not trying, it’s just not working at the moment.

“We need to get the points now and the vital ones are at home. They are meant to be the easy ones but we’re just not doing it at the moment.”

Following Swindon’s last home meeting, a 48-45 defeat to King’s Lynn Stars, team manager Rossiter threatened further changes to the team, having already replaced Emil Grondal with Dany Gappmaier.

However, after two losing points from difficult away trips to Belle Vue Aces and league leaders Wolverhampton Wolves, Doyle is hopeful those underperforming can prove themselves worthy of their place.

“It’s a cut-throat sport but we are all professional athletes,” he added.

“We know, when we are not scoring the points, that our jobs are in jeopardy.

“These boys who haven’t been performing – they know who they are, I don’t need to mention names – they know that their jobs are on the line at the moment and hopefully they can get themselves out of a hole.”

As a result, Doyle has been heavily relied upon but he has been helped by fellow Aussie Nick Morris, who has proven some of his doubters wrong this term.

However, the skipper, who finished fourth in Saturday’s Grand Prix in Latvia, knows they can’t continue to shoulder the burden.

“It’s really great that I have got someone to back me up,” explained Doyle. “We’re very strong in 13 and 15 but it can’t all come down to Nick and myself, there is a lot of pressure on us.

“It feels like there is more pressure on us two than when I ride individually. We just need a little bit of help. David (Bellego) is doing his job and Nick is doing far better than anyone expected.

“He has stepped up his game. I think he has matured as a rider and a kid, he is pretty level-headed and knows where he wants to be now.”

Spectators tonight are reminded that a family day is taking place at the Abbey Stadium.

The car park opens at 2.30pm with Robins riders holding a signing session between 3-3.45pm. The gates open at 4pm ahead of the parade at 4.45pm and meeting start at 5pm.

Entry is £17 for adults. £14 concessions. £5 for those aged 12-16 and Legends Lounge hospitality is still available at £40.
