SWINDON Town midfielder Yaser Kasim has been recalled to the Iraq national squad for their impending friendlies against Jordan and South Korea.

Kasim has not played for his country since last September, playing 30 minutes of Iraq’s 2-0 defeat to Australia in their World Cup qualifier.

The 26-year-old has had a chequered career with his national side, having briefly retired from international duty in 2015, after a disagreement with former captain Younis Mahmoud, although he subsequently returned to the fold.

After Iraq’s defeats to Australia and Saudi Arabi last September, it was announced that Kasim had been axed from the squad for their next two World Cup qualifiers and he has not played for his country since.

However, he has now back in favour and has been included in the squad for friendlies against Jordan on May 31 and South Korea on June 7.

Kasim is out of contract at Town at the end of the current season and can leave the club on a free transfer this summer, however, he was one of five players offered a new deal by the club on Friday.
