ALAN Low is expecting a positive performance from his Dorset & Wilts side this weekend when they host Berkshire in the RFU County Championships.

Following their Division Three Pool Two 28-10 defeat to Sussex last time out, the final group game is something of a dead rubber for both sides as they are unable to progress to the next round of the competition.

“We want to put our last performance right. We can’t progress because Sussex have won both of their games, but the players are desperate to get out there,” said Royal Wootton Bassett head coach Low, who is an assistant coach with the county side.

“The players have been fantastic, they have really shown that they want to commit to county rugby, which is always a battle at this time of year.

“Berkshire have had some strong sides to pick from so we are expecting a tough battle.”

Bassett have three players involved in the squad, Phil Bardwell, Gavin Ougan and David Hogg, while Swindon have one representative, Joe Jones.

Marlborough second row Jamie Pittams and Trowbridge three-quarter Ashley Chalk also start.

Elsewhere, Supermarine Rugby Club are extending an invitation to local women to meet their Inner Warrior at a free rugby taster event today.

Developed by England Rugby, the Meet Your Inner Warrior campaign is aimed at women and girls to encourage greater female participation in contact rugby across the country.

Up until tomorrow, more than 150 Warrior Camps will have taken place at rugby clubs across England, with the hope of attracting over 1,000 players to the sport – sports kit and trainers will be the only equipment needed.

Marine will be holding their event at their Supermarine Road home today from 9.30am to 12.30pm, with players of all abilities welcome.
