SWINDON Robins' Adam Ellis put a frustrating start to his league campaign behind him to clinch second place at the British U21 final this evening.

The 21-year-old, who has finished on the podium twice previously, came just short of taking the victory as he was pipped by Robert Lambert, who went the whole night at Poole Pirates' Wimbourne Road stadium unbeaten while fellow Robin Zach Wajtknecht finished strongly to secure eighth place.

Ellis was first up of the Swindon pair in heat two and after Danyon Hume was excluded after coming down on the exit of bend four following an engine seizure, a crash that saw him taken to hospital with an arm injury, the Robins rider was able to able to sweep around Liam Carr around the outside down the back straight of lap three to claim the win.

It wasn’t the same start for Wajtknecht as he finished last in heat three, which was taken by Lambert.

It was a better race for the 19-year-old in heat six as he picked up his first points of the night with a second place finish in heat five, pushing Daniel Bewley all the way.

Ellis made the gate in heat eight but Lambert had the beating of him when he hit the front going into bend three of lap two.

Having started well again in heat 11, Ellis made no mistake this time as he lead from the front to claim a second victory, with Wajtknecht finishing last in the same heat.

A fine move off bend four of lap one in heat 14 saw Ellis round Bewley and take the win, while Watjknecht picked up a second runners-up spot of the evening in heat 16, finishing behind Ellis Perks, after the Rye House Rockets rider made a fine move around the outside of the Robin down the back straight of the opening lap.

Ellis secured his place in the final as he took the win in heat 17 to finish on 14 points, a point behind Lambert, who won all of his five rides to join the Swindon man directly into the final.

While, Wajtknecht finished his evening on a high as he was quickly away from the tapes in heat 18 to claim the win and finish on seven points.

n ROBINS’ in-form Australian ace Nick Morris will also ride for Berwick in the SGB Championship for the remainder of this season after being confirmed as the Bandits’ new number one.

Morris, who has been one of the early-season stars for Alun Rossiter’s SGB Premiership Robins, is one of three changes made by Berwick this week, following a difficult start to their campaign and will lead the side against Ipswich tomorrow night.
