FORGET about the IPL, The Ram Slam, The Big Bash or The Blast, the Wiltshire Wallop T20 tournament will return in 2017.

This year’s competition sees Biddestone, Chippenham, Corsham and Marshfield contest group A, with group B consisting of Goatacre, Royal Wootton Bassett, Swindon and Swindon Dynamos.

Burbage & Easton Royal, Potterne and Trowbridge do battle in group C and, for the first time in 2017, the Wallop competition has been set up as an official play-cricket competition, meaning fixtures have been created on behalf of clubs.

The format for this year will see a cup competition, featuring the top team from each group, plus best second-placed team, at finals day at Corsham on August 20.

A Plate, featuring the remaining three second-placed teams, plus best third-placed team, will also take place at a finals day on a date to be confirmed.

As in previous years, fortnightly fixture blocks have been set up for clubs to arrange dates themselves.

These can be evenings, days or weekends and it is meant as a guide to enable all fixtures to be played.

However, if clubs wish to arrange different dates to make it easier for both teams, then can are free to do so.

All Wiltshire Cricket require from clubs is notification of the dates arranged, either by updating the play-cricket site or informing competition administrator, Ben White.

The British weather is well known to get in the way but in the spirit of “Get The Game On”, matches should be re-arranged wherever possible. Reduced overs matches are encouraged – again where possible.

As ever, Wiltshire Cricket are keen to know about big scores, wickets taken, sixes hit, most golden ducks etc. Please put these on social media or make a note of the performances when sending results.

Last year, Twitter was excellent in raising the awareness of the competition for clubs and players alike.
