WHEN Tom Robson looks back at the last weekend, the Trowbridge Town manager will be sporting one of the biggest smiles he has ever had.

While seeing his Wiltshire League Premier Division side hold on to win a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Royal Bassett Town Reserves on the Saturday, Robson then welcomed a baby girl to the world the next day.

“You could say it has been a good weekend,” Robson said. “After winning on Saturday we had a little girl the next day – it’s fantastic.”

Prior to the Bees’ trip to Bassett, the Trowbridge chief was eager to see a response from his team following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Malmesbury Victoria Development.

The Bees, who saw Connor McKay notch twice, with Shaun Percival and Ashton Shanley also on target, swarmed into a 3-0 lead at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground before Bassett pulled two goals back after the interval.

Trowbridge, who also saw Shanley’s penalty saved by Conor Chivers, then made it 4-2 before Bassett, who ended the game with 10 players after Daniel Wernham was dismissed for two bookable offences, struck again.

“We are just looking to build a bit of momentum now,” Robson said. “It has been tough this year.

“We have gone and put some good performances against the top teams but when it comes to games against sides lower down the league, like Malmesbury, we struggle.

“On Saturday, I thought when it went 4-3: 'Here we go again.' We had some tired legs out there but I was pleased to see the boys close the game out.”

Wroughton returned to the top of the table on Saturday courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Corsham Town Reserves.

The Weir Field side replaced Shrewton United, who were also 3-1 winners on Saturday beating Marlborough Town, at the summit after Beversbrook’s record was expunged over the last week.

Mark Love’s men are a point clear of second placed Melksham Town Reserves, who beat Ludgershall Sports 3-2, while Shrewton slipped to third.

Elsewhere in the league, Bromham picked up their fifth win of the campaign as they edged out Cricklade Town 4-3, while Devizes Town Reserves claimed a 1-0 win at Pewsey Vale Development.
