SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams says he is going to do everything within his power to stave off relegation with the players at his disposal.

In a statement to the fans last week, chairman Lee Power conceded that he had made mistakes during the summer transfer window and failed to provide the club with the players they needed to compete this season.

However, with the help of director of football Tim Sherwood, Power ascertained that Williams, who has been given back full control of first-team activities in recent weeks, now has the ‘right tools to work with to move (Town) to safety’.

Swindon brought in eight players during the month of January but despite calls from many for more experience in the squad, they still boast the youngest average age in their starting line-up, 23.3, in the entire Football League.

However, that is not something that is of concern for Williams, who is happy to toe the party line for as long as player recruitment is not under his remit.

“I am an employee of the club and I believe in whatever the club does,” he said, following Saturday’s draw with Oldham Athletic.

“I would not like to talk out of line with whatever Tim or Lee has said before.

“I am professional and I respect the chain of command and there will be no complaints from me.

“I will work with the under 12s if I have to, but I will support the players.

“Whatever the chairman believes is what we all believe at the football club.

“Until I am in a situation where I am told that I am responsible for all signings and it is entirely down to me, then of course I will answer the questions and explain the reasons why I brought a player in or why I failed to bring this one and I will sit and explain all those decisions.

“At the moment, I can only tell you that I agree with everything the club has done and I am prepared to work with every single player.

“I will do my utmost now to try to use the squad to win enough games to keep us up.”
