CONOR Thomas is hoping Swindon Town have got over a psychological hurdle as they prepare for a tough test against a wounded Peterborough United this afternoon.

Last Saturday, against Bolton Wanderers, was the first time this season that Town have recovered from going a goal down to claim all three points this season.

Looking back to games against Scunthorpe United, Rochdale and Sheffield United, all too often Swindon have self-destructed after conceding first.

However, that was not the case at the Macron Stadium and Thomas hopes that his team have got the monkey off their back.

“I think we have crumbled and things haven’t gone our way under pressure but when we went 1-0 down (against Bolton), we stood strong and to come away with the win, it was really pleasing as a group,” he said.

“When we have conceded – that was the first game we came back and won.

“We do tend to concede the second and we do ‘go’ a little bit, so I think a lot of it was mental.

“To get that first win coming from behind; I think it was important.

“Away from home, they (Bolton) were doing really well, the performance, the way we won at the death; it was up there, definitely.

“I would say credit to the fans that did come to Bolton. It was a long way and I am so glad we got the win for them. It’s a great feeling getting the goal at the away end.

“We’ll have to follow that up and give the home fans something to shout about now.”

Swindon now face a Peterborough side who were humbled 5-1 last weekend away to Bury, a result that ended the Shakers’ 20-game run without a win.

However, Thomas knows his teammates can’t rest on their laurels but hopes the style of play adopted by Posh manager Grant McCann will play into their hands.

“I think we have all got to be aware of the reaction to their last couple of results,” he added.

“They will be coming and looking to have a quick start, so we have got to be ready to go.

“I think we have shown that we tend to do better against teams that like to come and play.

“It is definitely a game to look forward to but they will be looking to bounce back from their result at the weekend.

“At the same time, we’re on the back of a good result ourselves, so just have to carry that on.

“It’s amazing what one win can do for you and it’s up to us to get that momentum going. We’ll take each game as it comes.”
