IMPORT forward Jonas Hoog does not think there is anything wrong with Swindon Wildcats’ shooting boots despite falling victim to a rare shut-out over the weekend.

The Cats suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Peterborough Phantoms on Saturday night, although that is only the second time they have failed to find the net in 36 English Premier League fixtures this term.

Aaron Nell’s troops did not let the disappointment hold them back for too long as they set the record straight 24 hours later with a hard-fought 4-2 success on the road at Sheffield Steeldogs.

Hoog was among the Swindon scorers at iceSheffield, and also racked up two assists, and the Swede believes the battling response in Yorkshire proves his side have not lost their touch in front of goal.

“We are pleased with the result on Sunday and we needed it after Saturday night,” said 30-year-old Hoog.

“We didn’t score any goals on Saturday but we started off pretty good at Sheffield and it was a massive win for us.

“Sheffield got early goals in both the first two periods but we responded really well. We got a goal back quickly each time so we turned it around and in the end, it was a pretty good result.

“We were very pleased with our defence work too.

“We played pretty strong around our own goal and played good defence to keep them out.

“On Sunday, the shots were going in, but on Saturday, they were not. It was just one of those nights.

“I don’t know what happened on Saturday but luckily everyone was able to put that behind them pretty quickly.

“It is never fun not to score at home, especially for the fans, but we turned it around on Sunday and it is a massive two points for us.”

The defeat against Peterborough was just a second at home for Swindon in their last nine fixtures at the Link Centre and Hoog knows further dropped points on their own ice could prove costly when it comes to determining the seedings for the end-of-season play-offs.

“We can’t afford to drop too many points at home but we are usually pretty strong there,” said Hoog.

“You always want to win at home, you want to win every game but especially at home.

“We have to keep working hard in our small rink to try to get as many wins as we can.”
