AS SWINDON Town’s quartet of new boys made their mark in Saturday’s win at Bolton Wanderers, the performance of one debutant in particular didn’t come as much of a surprise to Lawrence Vigouroux.

The 23-year-old played for both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the top tier of English youth football and says that Chelsea loanee Charlie Colkett, who played a part in both of Town’s goals as they stunned Bolton at the Macron Stadium, garnered quite a reputation for himself in the Professional Development League.

Vigouroux was quick to congratulate Colkett following the final whistle at the weekend and believes that he, along with fellow Chelsea youngsters Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz, as well as Ben Gladwin, who is back at the club on loan from Queens Park Rangers, will shine in Swindon shirts.

“Charlie’s an unbelievable talent. I’ve played against him numerous times in the U21 and U23 leagues and he’s someone that has got outstanding ability, and I really enjoyed training with him,” said the Town stopper.

“I spoke to him after the game and said: ‘you know what, you are absolutely quality’, which is what he was.

“Once you play against players in the U23 league, word gets out that this player’s good or that player’s good, and Charlie’s always someone that everyone used to speak about at Liverpool and when I was at Tottenham.

“Even when he came on against us this season (for Bristol Rovers in September), you could see that he’s got brilliant talent, and he’s only young, so for a player with so much ability, he can go wherever he wants.

“Fanky – he can play at left-back but he’s not one – but he didn’t look out of place at all and then Islam ran the channels and helped us out with the second balls and the knockdowns.

“I know Ben Gladwin really well.

“He’s an outstanding player and I think he’s absolutely class for this level. It’s a brilliant signing for us.

“We’ve just got to keep going with this group of players and you never know what will happen.”

Following the success at Bolton, Vigouroux is already targeting another positive result when Town host Peterborough United this weekend.

He added: “I know Peterborough lost (5-1 to Bury) at the weekend but they’re a good side and they just played against Chelsea, so it will be a tough game but if we play like we did (against Bolton), we’ve got a very good chance of getting something at home.

“We’ve played three games in 2017 but we’re unbeaten in it, so we’ve just got to keep going.

“We’ve been training hard and we’re starting to reap the rewards, and once we get players fit like Nath (Thompson) and Jonny (Obika), I think we’ll be a force in this division.”
