NICK Morris finished with a flourish in the final round of the Australian Speedway Championship on Saturday night but had to settle for a sixth-placed finish overall.

The 22-year-old Swindon Robins man racked up two heat wins – in the seventh and 17th – in Kurri Kurri to book his place in the A final alongside Brady Kurtz, former Abbey Stadium skipper Troy Batchelor and Sam Masters.

Masters made a mess of his start and finished fourth as Morris came in second behind Kurtz but the former was celebrating most at the end of the night as he claimed the overall title with 58 points ahead of Justin Sedgmen (55) and Davey Watt (50).

The Robins' Morris finished back in sixth with a championship haul of 43 points.
