LUKE Williams is full of hope that Swindon Town’s show-stopping victory at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday heralded the heights his side are going to realise more often between now and the end of the season.

Town flipped League One on its head by returning to winning ways and handing Bolton only their second home defeat of the season with a 2-1 come-from-behind triumph thanks to goals from Ben Gladwin and Yaser Kasim.

Additionally, a superb three points were secured with four players making their debut and in the absence of key men Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Obika, and head coach Williams was left bursting with pride.

“I think people are sick of me saying ‘I hope this is the one that starts us off on a different path’ and I don’t want people to be sick and tired of hearing that over and over again,” he said.

“I hope that the new players coming in to the squad has rejuvenated everybody and I hope that this is the example of what we’re going to see more.

“I can’t say for sure but I’m hoping as much as every other Swindon fan is.

“To go to that stadium – this is a club that are destined for bigger and better things – and to be able to perform on that stage was really encouraging.

“I can genuinely say I’m proud of this group virtually week in, week out.

“There’s been one or two (times) where I think the effort wasn’t there and it’s not acceptable but other than that, I’m proud of this group.

“Week in, week out, day in, day out; they work very hard and they’re a fantastic group but (Saturday) was definitely a day to be proud of the whole squad.”

Full-back Bradley Barry and striker Obika, who have both struggled with injury problems in recent weeks, both missed out on being part of Saturday’s heroics.

Williams said: “Bradley’s ankle; there’s still too much fluid there and we need to get the fluid off before we can start to make sure that it’s strong enough “Jon Obika seems to be incredibly finely-tuned at the moment and any sort of over-stretch or any sort of awkward contact, he seems to be picking up (injuries).

“He picked something up again in training, which we don’t think is too serious, but again, we don’t want to take a risk and lose him for a long period.

“I think it’s something in the hamstring but I don’t think it’s got to the stage where it’s gone ‘ping’ yet – it’s feeling like it might do, so he’s sensibly gone to get physiotherapy on it.”
