CHIPPENHAM were unable to lower the colours of Reading opposition for a second week in succession as Reading Abbey secured the spoils 26-15 at Allington Field.

A week after their 23-13 triumph at Reading, the home side were undone by a hat-trick of tries from Abbey number eight Will Woodward.

The opening score came in the eighth minute as Woodward capitalised after a break from wing Jules Greenaway to go over for his first, centre Olly Walton converting.

With the Abbey scrum dominant, they took a five-metre set piece and, despite being forced backwards, Woodward picked up from the base and charged over in the corner.

Chippenham attacked in response but after another Woodward pick up from a scrum, Greenaway burst up the wing and scrum-half Will Bevan was in support to touch down, Walton adding the extras.

The home side responded when, after winger Brad Doggett had gone close, full-back Sam Saunders moved the ball left and flanker Sam Graham went over, Saunders adding the conversion and then kicking a penalty to bring his side to within nine points at half-time.

Woodward's try after the interval set the seal on Abbey's triumph, Walton converting.

With a minute of normal time remaining Doggett was driven over for a consolation try.

Royal Wootton Bassett stayed in fourth place in the table despite being beaten 38-28 at Banbury, although Alan Low's men did claim a try bonus point.
