WITH such a short turnaround between games Luke Williams has admitted that Town will not know until late on who will be fit to play against Northampton this evening.

Swindon secured a 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic on Saturday without the likes of Michael Doughty, Jamie Sendles-White and Sean Murray.

While Sendles-White, who has an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and Doughty, who is still recovery from appendicitis, look set for longer periods on the sidelines, the rest of the County Ground casualty list is more up in the air.

James Brophy looks unlikely to recover from a chest infection that saw him withdrawn at half-time during the defeat to Bristol Rovers, while Barry has two knocks which saw him miss Saturday’s trip to Boundary Park completely.

However, it could be better news for midfielder Murray, who was forced off last Tuesday, as the 22-year-old could return from his foot injury having not sustained a break.

While the quick turnaround is less than ideal, Town head coach Williams remained optimistic of being able to bolster his squad ahead of the important test against the Cobblers.

“There is no rest for the wicked,” he told BBC Wiltshire. “We are hoping that a few of the boys will be in contention but it’s very difficult to know until they are assessed properly either on Sunday or Monday.

“(James Brophy’s) situation is under control but it was not suitable for him to play this game.

“Bradley Barry is still nursing a knee injury, he has got a small pull in a hamstring.

“Sean Murray’s foot is very bruised but he has had a scan and the good news is there’s no break in there so it’s just a question of that foot being comfortable enough to kick a ball and make a tackle without there being too much discomfort.”

Swindon face a Northampton side who are in fine fettle, with Saturday’s 4-0 win over Southend lifting the league new boys up to fifth spot.

“So many teams are so tough to play against, nobody wants to give up easily in this division so we know we are in for another tough game,” added Williams.

“We have to now try to get as much work in as we can in the short amount of time we have got. It’s really important that, physically, we allow the boys to recover so that they can put another shift in.”
