CORSHAM Wyverns have been crowned the Twenty20 kings of the county after they won the Wiltshire Wallop.

The Station Road men beat Trowbridge in competition's showpiece match on finals day staged at Potterne.

Swindon had missed out on making the final four last week after they suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Chippenham in the quarter-finals, despite a 39-ball 83 from Jon Sore.

However, Chippenham’s participation on finals days, which saw all three games reduced to 10-overs-a-side because of the rain over the weekend, ended after a six-wicket loss to Trowbridge.

The Hardenhuish Park side reached 99-2 from their 10 overs, but a 16-ball 49 from Trowbridge skipper John Carroll steered his side home.

In the other semi-final, Corsham were put into bat by Marshfield, with skipper Ashur Morrison firing away a phenomenal 107 off 26 balls, hitting 15 sixes and three fours as the Station Road men closed on a formidable 207-1, with Dwaine Fielding unbeaten on a relatively slow 24-ball 69 – six sixes and seven fours.

Marshfield got themselves ahead of the 20.7 runs-per-over rate in the first four overs but wickets at regular intervals from Fielding and Gabe Field restricted them to 124-5.

In the final, Corsham opted to bat first having won the toss, and the big hitting continued, with 32 scored off the first two overs before Steve Bullen was caught by Mike Reynolds off the bowling of Scott Mitchell. Morrison then went for just one as the Trowbridge bowler picked up his second wicket.

At 37-2, Fielding was in full flow as he followed Morrison’s heroics from the semi-final with a 30-ball 103, crashing six sixes and 11 fours.

An unbeaten 19 from Charley Reed saw the Wyverns close on 155-6 from their 10 overs.

Trowbridge struggled to gain momentum in their response as they slumped to 15-2 in the second over, with Jon Siggins removing opener Nick Pang and Brendon Louw early on.

Morrison then removed his Trowbridge counterpart Carroll to leave them 20-3.

Trowbridge rallied slightly before a fine catch in the deep from Field, off the bowling of Sam Thomson, saw them fall to 50-4 before regular wickets meant they closed on 98-9, 57 runs short of their target.
