SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter believes the play-off door is still open wide enough for them to squeeze through after last night’s impressive win over King’s Lynn Stars.

The side travel to Belle Vue this evening buoyed by a 10-point win at the Adrian Flux Arena, with skipper Jason Doyle leading the way with an unbeaten 12 points from his four rides, which lifted them back to third place in the Elite League standings.

Fellow Aussie Nick Morris also looked impressive in Norfolk as he re-found some form to pick up 11 points, which included three race wins as Swindon recorded a 51-41 victory over the Stars.

Swindon welcomed back reserve Stefan Nielsen from his wrist injury but were without fellow reserve Charles Wright, with Leigh Lanham taking his place.

Whereas, King's Lynn named three changes to their side. Both Robert Lambert and Lewis Rose were required on Premier League duty with Newcastle while reserve Simon Lambert remains side-lined through injury.

Chris Harris and Lewis Kerr came in alongside King’s Lynn Young Stars number one Josh Bailey, who was handed his chance with the senior side.

Doyle, fresh from his second place finish in the Sweden Grand Prix, set the tone for his evening as he picked up a first win in heat one.

Morris, who has been struggling of late, gave himself a big boost when he gated well in heat three to team up with Josh Grajczonek and claim a 5-1 win to stretch the visitor’s advantage.

Doyle picked up his second win of the night in heat six before Justin Sedgmen won heat eight to stretch Swindon’s lead to 10 points.

King’s Lynn responded immediately, handing the tactical ride to Kai Huckenback but Rohan Tungate did well to nullify that as much as possible as he won heat nine.

Huckenback had to settle for second spot, with Bailey picking up his first Elite League points ahead of Nielsen in third.

Swindon restored their 10-point lead in heat 11 before Nielsen, who picked up seven vital points, all but put the result out of King’s Lynn’s reach with a win in heat 12.

Heats 13 and 14 were split to secure Swindon all four points before Niels-Kristian Iversen and Harris threw in a last stand with a maximum in heat 15 to leave the final score looking more respectable.

“We had a few strong words but in the right direction type of words ahead of this meeting,” said Rossiter.

“It was quite brutal but the riders said it as well and they knew the importance of this meeting and I got the response I was looking for.

“It still doesn’t sit well with me how poor we were at Coventry - that frustrated the hell out of me.

“It was great to see Nick back scoring and Justin - I just put it down to a bit of a kick up the backside.

“Also, where one of our bigger problems has been is at reserve, we haven’t been able to replace Stefan.

“He has been out that long and has come back with seven points today and has just gone to show how important he is to this side.

“Without good reserves you are knackered in this league.

“We got Leigh Lanham in for Charles as well tonight and he popped in with some results, he was just picking up points and we weren’t getting lasts.

“The team are motivated knowing that they have no more meetings left at the end of the season if they don’t make the play-offs.

Swindon now travel to league-leading Belle Vue this evening in search of back-to-back wins for the first time since the start of July.

However, Rossiter has one eye on events at Brandon, where Coventry Bees host Lakeside, a meeting that might go some way to deciding the play-off hopes of the Robins.

“It is big,” he added.

“However, I am a bit concerned that Coventry have lost Krzysztof Kasprzak against Lakeside tomorrow and they don’t get a facility and I have just heard they won’t have Kacper Wrona either, so it is going to be an uphill task tomorrow (for Coventry).

“If they win there then it is going to make it pretty hard for us.

“We have just got to worry about ourselves and if we can get something from Bele Vue then that will be a big plus for us.

“It is going to be hard without Rohan, given how good he was there last time for us and we haven’t got him, we have only got rider replacement.

“At least we don’t have to go there being frightened. It is a great track and I don’t think they have any home track advantage.

“We have just got to make sure that we got there and rattle them.

“We have got to keep hoping for the play-offs and if we do that, who knows?”
