TEENAGE goalkeeper Will Henry has penned a two-year professional deal with Swindon Town.

The 18-year-old, who made his first-team debut at the end of last season, was previously a youth team scholar, but joins fellow youngster Tom Smith in signing professional forms at the County Ground.

Henry, who will battle Lawrence Vigouroux for the number one spot at the club, made a superb debut at Rochdale at the end of last season, saving a penalty in the 2-2 draw before also playing in Town’s final match of the campaign against Shrewsbury.

He told the club's official website: "I definitely wouldn’t have expected this six months ago – I didn’t expect to play the last two games of the season.

“I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing, work hard, make sure I’m focused and don’t get distracted, and make sure I push myself this season.”

Midfielder Smith, meanwhile, is also aiming to make an impact, the 18-year-old having made two substitute appearances last season, scoring in the 3-1 victory at Crewe in early September.

He told BBC Wiltshire: "It's been nice coming back with the boys in pre-season.

"Obviously, I'm a local lad so it's nice to get that first contract. I've been here since I was eight-years-old and it's always nice to come through the system.

"I was involved in September but it was a little bit stop-start because I had a big groin injury in February, so it was a bit of a frustrating season last season.

"But I've got a few games under my belt and it's helped me this season.

"I'm looking forward to what's to come. We've all gelled well (on the pre-season tour) in Ireland and we'll see what's to come.

"It was nice to get recognised for what I was doing on the pitch and what I was doing outside.

"It would be brilliant to be involved in as many games as I can, to be involved in and around the squad.

"We've got a small squad at the moment and it's youthful, so to be involved in the squad is going to be beneficial to me – that's my aim really.''
