THE three-sided Kassam Stadium of Swindon Town's A420 rivals Oxford United could be four-sided by the time the two sides meet in League One in September.

The U's were hoping to have a temporary structure in place at the west end of the ground in place for the start of the season on August 6 but while that now looks unlikely, the derby clash with Town on September 10 is a more realistic deadline.

Oxford chairman Darryl Eales told the Oxford Mail, a sister paper of the Swindon Advertiser, “Everything is ready, I’m talking to Firoz (Kassam, stadium owner) about it and the planning is going in.

“The great news is the physical construction of the stand takes about three days, so once everything else is done it’s very easy to install.

“I can’t tell you when that will come to pass, but I’d like to think certainly by the Swindon game it will be in place.”

United have appointed a supplier, Arena Seating, for a 735-seater stand to remain for a minimum of three seasons, with a formal planning application expected shortly.

Eales added: “I would prefer even on big games not to put away fans in there because hopefully we’ve got so many home fans that want to come and support the club.”
