SWINDON Town goalkeeper Tyrell Belford has joined National League side Southport on a season-long loan.

Belford, who made nine league and cup appearances for Town last season, will join The Port for the 2016-17 campaign - with no recall clause arranged.

Southport boss Andy Bishop confirmed he was planning on making the 22-year-old, who has represented England at Under 17 level, his number one keeper.

"I'm delighted to have signed Ty Belford and I've been working on the deal for some time,'' said Bishop.

"I've followed his career since he was at Liverpool and watched his progress at Swindon. Ty has made appearances in League One and fought for the number one spot.

"I've been working hard in this area to find the right man and believe Ty is that person.

"He's on a season-long loan but I see him as our player because there's no recall clause. I'd like to thank Swindon for all their help getting the deal done."

Belford's departure comes with Town believed to be close to finalising a deal for Liverpool goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, with a fee of around £400,000 reportedly agreed.

Young goalkeeper Will Henry, who excelled in performances for Town at the end of last season, also remains on the County Ground books.

Meanwhile, Swindon have begun their search for a replacement for Steve Hale, who left the club for Forest Green Rovers earlier this month, in an unconventional way.

Although most professional teams often use their contacts in the field to appoint a new coach, Town have advertised for the vacant role online.

The advert for the dual role of first team and under 18s goalkeeping coach carries an annual salary of £25,000 and can be found on job search websites.

The main role of the successful candidate will be to deliver goalkeeping coaching programmes for the first team and 16-18-year-old goalkeepers with sessions which ‘reflect the club’s football philosophy’.

Town are looking for someone who holds a UEFA B Licence in goalkeeping as well as having the FA’s safeguarding and basic first aid for sport qualifications.
