RESERVE rider Charles Wright is sure Swindon Robins have what it takes to continue to turn their form around, despite facing a daunting trip to Elite League leaders Lakeside Hammers this evening.

This time a fortnight ago, the Swindon septet were waking up with thoughts of a third Elite League defeat in the space of four days – two of which were suffered at the Abbey Stadium – fresh in their minds.

However, Alun Rossiter’s troops were at least able to gloss over some of the damage when they triumphed away at bottom side Leicester Lions at the end of that painful week.

The weather prevented the Robins from getting back to winning ways on home turf yesterday, with their scheduled fixture at Blunsdon against Lakeside called off early in the afternoon due to the threat of heavy rain later in the evening.

After almost two weeks without a meeting, Swindon’s wait to return to action will not go on too much longer as they are set for a return fixture against Lakeside tonight.

The Hammers may be sitting pretty at the top of the table at present, having won all seven of their home fixtures so far in 2016, but Englishman Wright says Swindon have the character and ability to upset the odds at Arena-Essex Raceway.

“We’ve got a great team spirit at Swindon this year and even though things haven’t gone well for us in the last few meetings, I think we are definitely capable of turning things around,” said 28-year-old Wright, who is free to ride for the Robins as there is no fixture clash with his Premier League side Somerset Rebels.

“We are in a good position at this stage, so there is no need to panic.

“We’ve picked up some surprising results away and you can’t have things all your own way, so the last couple of meetings aren’t a disaster.

“Lakeside are a good team but hopefully I’ll be able to get myself sorted and help us to get a good result.”

Australian youngster Nick Morris will undergo more late fitness tests ahead of this evening’s fixture, although last night’s call-off has given him an extra day to recover from the ankle injury he suffered in the second of two falls at Leicester last time out.

The Hammers will also be at full strength, with Sweden’s Kim Nilsson free to ride for the hosts, having been unavailable for Thursday’s cancelled meet.
