REDLANDS Primary School in Chippenham have won the Wilts and Dorset Pop Lacrosse Tournament for the second year running.

Arriving as defending champions, Redlands had a point to prove and their biggest rivals Stanton St Quintin, the 2013 winners, were looking to upset the apple cart.

The two schools met in the first game of the preliminary round, with Redlands stamping their authority on the proceedings with an emphatic 7-1 win.

While the other teams were beating each other, Redlands continued to win their games, although not all as convincingly – St Mary’s Weston held on for a while only to lose 5-2 and Downton Salisbury kept the score to 4-2.

Redlands topped the preliminary round standings ahead of Stanton St Quintin and in the semi-finals, much-improved St Mary’s gave Redlands a fright by scoring first but the Chippenham outfit rallied and to win 4-1.

The second semi was a much closer affair, with Stanton and Brinkworth Earl Danby locked at 2-2 for a lot of the game before Stanton netted the winner late on.

The final between old rivals Stanton and Redlands could not have been more different from the opening game. Stanton had grown into the tournament and were up for the challenge but Redlands just had a little too much firepower and were eventually able to triumph 4-2.

Redlands now go on to the National Pop Finals in Sheffield on June 26 as regional representatives.
