STARRING in a Swindon Robins victory at the Abbey Stadium felt like realising a childhood dream for Justin Sedgmen.

The 23-year-old produced a stunning display to help Alun Rossiter’s side return to the top of the Elite League table with a 55-38 victory over the King’s Lynn Stars, stealing the limelight by recording a mighty six-ride paid maximum.

Sedgmen’s display was something akin to the magic formerly served up by Robins legend Leigh Adams, who also hails from Mildura in south-east Australia, and the Swindon man enjoyed every moment of achieving something he’d long fantasised about.

“Doing it in Swindon colours – my boyhood dream club to ride for – to get a maximum around here; I’m stoked about it,” said Sedgmen, who was sent out in place of Charles Wright in heat 11 and also replaced Rohan Tungate in heat 14 after he suffered an injury in a fall.

“As a kid, I always watched Swindon. People go for Manchester United and Chelsea and that, and I went for Swindon Robins.

“Leigh Adams is from my home town and he brought me over to England, and he set the benchmark, so hopefully I can join him.

“It was good to do it here and get the first maximum for Swindon, and I just had a lot of fun doing it.

“It was one of those nights – you don’t really know what’s going on; you’re just having a good time and making good starts and I’m stoked.

“You’re just full of confidence, just dropping the clutch before everyone else and it was just really fun.”

Sedgmen’s 17+1 haul also came as he operated at reserve but like team-mate Tungate before him, the Aussie, who was thrown into the air in the pits by his teammates in celebration, says that he could waste little time sulking about his enforced demotion.

He added: “You don’t really want to be there but if you go there with that bad attitude, you’ll probably do badly.

“I went there and kept doing what I’d been doing because I’d been beating the good guys – I’d beat (Andreas) Jonsson and (Matej) Zagar and most of the Grand Prix riders in the Elite League.

“Getting a big score; it does make a difference, really.

“I’ll keep enjoying it. It’s really fun with all the boys and for them to go and give me the bumps; it’s just like being out there and having a good time with all your mates, and it’s really enjoyable to do that.

“You get a good rider at reserve; it takes the pressure off the main guys in the team, so I’m glad I did that and we’ll try to carry it on at King’s Lynn next Thursday.”
