SWINDON Town’s latest signing John Goddard has been named in the England C squad to face Slovakia U21 in their International Challenge Trophy qualifier next month.

The 22-year-old joined Town on a three-year deal last Friday from National League side Woking, where he was the club’s top goalscorer with 17 goals in 41 National League appearances.

The England C team represent their country at non-league level, with Goddard making his debut for the side back in March when he started in a 2-0 win over Ukraine.

The midfielder set up the first goal in that game when his free-kick looped off the wall and fell to Forest Green Rovers’ Kurtis Guthrie to open the scoring.

Goddard is part of a 16-man squad who will take on Slovakia at Sutton United’s Borough Sports Ground on Sunday, June 5.

England's head coach Paul Fairclough said: "I have heard excellent reports on the quality of the surface at Sutton and we are looking forward to visiting Gander Green Lane in June.

"We have good memories of playing on an artificial surface as we beat Finland U21s 2-0 in Helsinki back in 2007."
