DAVE Ferris admits his players have not come up with the solution to their goalscoring ills after being hit by yet another sucker punch at Hardenhuish Park on Tuesday.

It was a familiar story for the manager as Park spurned a host of chances and were then stunned by a late winner from promotion contenders Hengrove Athletic to slip to their 15th defeat of the Toolstation League First Division season.

That followed a 1-1 draw at Wincanton at the weekend where the Wiltshire men surrendered a one-goal advantage given to them by Garry Lock’s strike.

A bemused Ferris said: “I’m just getting bored of telling people that we’ve dominated a game and then not got out of it what we should.

“We must have had 15 efforts to their four or five (on Tuesday), but then we conceded a sloppy goal four or five minutes before the end and that was it.

“We can’t ask any more of the lads in terms of effort and the work rate is very good but it’s a simple fact of life that we don’t seem to have the killer instinct.’’

He added: “Generally, our defending has been very good but small mistakes are costing us and we’re also creating chances but not finishing them. That was probably the difference between the two sides.

“To be blunt, we weren’t good enough to do the job we’d been asked to do. They scored their goal and that’s what we didn’t do.’’

Park conclude their league commitments by hosting county neighbours Westbury United on Saturday.

Ferris added: “We beat them 1-0 at their place earlier in the season and they, like us, have had their struggles this season.

“They lost to (bottom side) Bishop Sutton (on Tuesday) but, as one of our lads said, that’s probably going to give them impetus to try and put that right against us.’’
