WILTSHIRE and Swindon Sports (WASP) held the School Games Level Three county badminton competition at Tidworth Leisure Centre.

Eleven schools took part - Stonehenge, Leehurst Swan, St Augustines, Clarendon, Matravers, St Laurence, St Edmunds, Bishop Wordsworth, Hardenhuish, Devizes, Isambard - with the Key Stage Three event proving very close as three schools were in a position to win until the final match.

Bishop Wordsworth eventually came through ahead of St Augustine’s and Devizes School, whose key stage four boys - Charlie Strickland, Matthew Collis, Darius Blackwood and Aaron Holloway - clinched their age group crown.

There were wins for Hardenhuish and St Augustine’s in the Key Stage Three and Four girls events respectively.

Young leaders from Matravers, Clarendon, St Augustines and Kingdown schools officiated at the competition, with the winners going on to represent Wiltshire in the regional round of the National Schools Championship on March 10 at Plymouth Life Centre.

ST JOHN’S’ Academy Marlborough hosted the School Games Boys Basketball Level Three county event.

Schools competing came from across the county - St Johns, Churchfields, Bishop Wordsworth, Sheldon and St Augustines.

Wordsworth won all their games with Churchfields losing only to the eventual winners.
