CARLO Finucci is hoping to make the most of his opportunity to get some ice time with his new side.

The 28-year-old had a frustrating summer trying to find a new club and hopes that by having a consistent run with the Swindon Wildcats will help to put him firmly in the shop window.

However, the Canadian is not just looking at Swindon as a quick stepping stone and is focused on getting his head down and helping his new team climb the league table.

“I’m looking forward to putting some games together,” he told the Adver.

“It looks like it has been a one win one loss weekend so far and it will be nice to rattle off some consecutive win weekends and start moving our way to the top of the table.

“As a hockey player you want to play in the best leagues you can and I will do my best to help the team win here and we’ll see what happens from then on.

“You want to play in the best league you can and Stevie said to do well here and you never know what happens.

“You put up numbers anywhere and it will get noticed.

“With the help of your coach putting in a positive word you never know what can happen but my goal now is to take care of what I can take care of and that is on the ice.

“I want to get myself settled in and play hockey.”

Despite a summer of uncertainty Finucci says that he has been putting in the hours on the ice to ensure a quick transition when an eventual move presented itself.

The left wing has had two training sessions with his new teammates ahead of today’s clash with Sheffield Steeldogs and is hoping to make a fast start.

“Some European leagues start their pre-season in early August so I have been ready to go since July,” he added.

“I have been skating three or four times a week since then waiting for anything to pop up.

“I have got to get used to teammates and line-mates but as regard to being ready to skate and my hands being grippy, I should be ready to go.

“I have just got to get the chemistry flowing but you never know I might spark straight away.

“I work hard every shift. I’m not the biggest guy, but I am pretty solid and I am a play making kind of guy who likes to have the puck on my stick.

“I try and make my line-mates better around me with my work ethics.”
