SWINDON owner Terry Russell is anticipating a "special event" at the Abbey Farewell this Sunday.

Four-time world champion Barry Briggs will be among the host of Robins legends gracing the stadium for the final time.

Fellow class of ’67 champions Martin Ashby, Mike Broadbank, Peter Jackson, Pete Munday and Mike Keen will all also be a part of bringing down the curtain on the Abbey.

A Robins septet will take on an Elite League Select in what will be the final ever speedway meeting at the historic stadium.

As final preparations take place, Russell is looking forward to what will be a day of mixed emotions for all involved.

"Sunday is going to be a special day and I really hope the occasion gives the Abbey the farewell that it deserves," he said.

"It’s a place that has meant so much to people down the years and there’s bound to be plenty of fond memories for everyone.

"While I understand there’ll be some sadness for many in the stadium, it’s important to remember that it’s just the end of a chapter and the next one is very exciting indeed.

"Let’s enjoy the moment, say goodbye to the Abbey and then turn our attentions to something which will hopefully be just as special for many years to come."

A special souvenir brochure is being produced which looks back at a whole host of former Robins riders, teams, meetings and so much more and is a must have for all supporters.

The exclusive brochure will be available from the track for just £5.
