SWINDON Robins’ Troy Batchelor and Peter Kildemand failed to make an impact on an emotionally charged night for the Polish Grand Prix.

With Robins number one Darcy Ward clearly in the thoughts of the riders and the fans, with banners and chants of the Aussies name ringing around the stadium, it was Belle Vue’s Matej Zagar who claimed the win in Gorzow.

Batchelor and Kildemand went up against each in heat one with the Dane diving past the Aussie to claim third spot.

The Robins skipper was again pipped on the line in heat six, this time by Coventry Bees’ Chris Harris, as he settled for a third place finish.

Kildemand had looked to get his first win of the evening in heat eight before Wolves’ number one Jason Doyle charged past him for the heat win, with the Dane in second.

Batchelor was again at the back of the pack in heat 10 before Kildemand was just beaten to the line by Pedersen for his second runner-up finish of the evening.

Batchelor made the most of a bad crash in heat 18, when Doyle was excluded for catching Pedersen’s front wheel, sending the Dane and Zagar crashing into the air fence, with Pedersen ruled out of the rest of the meeting with concussion.

Zagar picked himself up from the collision to go underneath Batchelor and secure the win.

A second-place finish in heat 20 for Kildemand secured him a spot in the semi-final but he failed to make it any further with a fourth place finish.

Ward took to social media to thank fans for their support from his hospital bed in Dorset and many of the riders sent their good wishes to the Aussie in their post meeting interviews.

“What happened to Darcy puts out lives and careers into perspective,” said second placed Greg Hancock.

“It’s hard. It hurts. But we have to be strong for him.

“The kid has a long road ahead of him and we’ll be there all the way.”

Meanwhile, third placed Tai Woffinden said: “We all love him. We’re doing everything we can and we will continue to do that.”
