WESTBURY United finally put their early-season woes behind them as they secured their first victory of the season at local rivals Calne Town.

Shaun Gardiner’s side had lost their previous four matches, shipping 17 goals in the process, but a 2-1 triumph at Bremhill View gave them something to smile about on Wednesday.

With 19 minutes on the clock, Dan Moore headed United in front and despite the hosts’ Glenn Armstrong and Kris Beasley both threatening to level the scores, they carried their lead through to half time.

With 67 minutes gone, Gardiner’s men went 2-0 ahead as they broke on the counter and Moore grabbed his second.

Calne’s Armstrong did get himself on the scoresheet with a minute of normal time remaining but it could do little to dampen Westbury’s mood.

But United didn’t fare so well against near neighbours on Saturday as they went down 3-2 to Devizes Town at Meadow Lane.

Westbury took the lead early on after Jon O’Donovan brought down Nathan Hallett in the area, allowing Gary Tugwell to fire home from the penalty spot.

But the visitors turned the game on its head not long after half-time thanks to two goals from Robbie Mitchell, with the ball bouncing into the net off the Devizes man from a corner before he slotted home through the legs of keeper Charlie Heydon.

Slater then teed up substitute Glynn Rowles to make it 3-1 to the visitors before Brett Partner’s scorching effort reduced the deficit but it was little more than a consolation.
