CORSHAM have set themselves up for an assault on the top two of the Premier One division after propelling themselves up to third in the table with victory at Bath last weekend.

Ashur Morrison’s side went in to Saturday’s trip to North Parade in fifth place but, following a fine 22-run triumph at the league’s second-placed side, they leapfrogged Taunton St Andrews and Bristol and now sit just six points behind their vanquished title-chasing opponents.

Bath won the toss and put Corsham in to bat first, with openers Steve Bullen and Dwain Fielding getting the visitors off to a steady start with knocks of 26 and 21 respectively.

Skipper Morrison came to the crease third for his team and led the charge with a knock of 68 whilst his Wiltshire team-mate Michael Coles chipped in with 28.

The hosts’ George Hankins and Tim Rouse both helped themselves to a pair of wickets but another county player, tail-ender Joe King, provided a late Corsham surge as he smacked away an unbeaten 38 to help the visitors post 225-7.

King also proved effective with the ball as he took care of opener Joseph Barrett (17) whilst also removing Lloyd Davies (4) and Will Jenkins (3) on his way to figures of 3-25.

Bath’s Rouse did look to inspire a fightback however as he hung around on his way to a hearty knock of 91 whilst Luke Padgett also made 39 but two wickets apiece from Tom Foley, Coles and Morrison saw the home side skittled for 203 with little more than two-and-a-half overs to spare.

In the wake of their third victory in five games, Corsham go looking to make it three wins on the spin when they welcome second-from-bottom Taunton Deane to Station Road this weekend.

Fielding hit a sensational 221 when Morrison’s side triumphed by 59 runs in the reverse fixture in Somerset back on May 30.
