MARK Rudd is savouring being amongst the mix at this week’s World Championships in Copenhagen.

The 49-year-old, from Beechingstoke, is one of the six-strong Great Britain compound archers shooting for glory in the Danish capital this week, with the Devizes Bowmen club member in action in the world’s showpiece event for the first time in his career.

Rudd, who also represented his country at stage two of the Archery World Cup in Turkey earlier this year, is hoping to take in every moment of his Copenhagen campaign as he takes an ambitious shot at Saturday’s medal matches.

“It’s crazy to think that I am effectively 177 arrows away from a world championship match - I just have to put them in the right place,” said Rudd, who is a Grand Master Bowman and was ranked eighth in the compound men’s rankings by Archery GB last year.

“It’s quite a thrill really and I just feel privileged to be there.

“It’s going to be tough but the qualifying is all head-to-head matches so you only really need to get into the top 96 - that’s my aim.

“I just want to give the best account of myself that I can.”
