BIDDESTONE have been knocked off the top of the Glos/Wilts 2nd XI Division table after slipping to a seven-wicket defeat at Winsley last weekend.

The villagers lost the toss and Winsley’s Robbie Cross fired his team into the ascendancy with a knock of 85, with the home team posting 260-9 as Gareth Unwin took 3-37.

Matt Unwin spearheaded the Biddestone run-chase with a fine 119 but the visitors were always behind the required run-rate and, with Josh Lewis and Tim Merrell both taking three wickets apiece, they were dismissed for 253 in the penultimate over.

Elsewhere, Chippenham hammered Marlborough by 231 runs, Geoff Prudhoe (97) and Paul Bates (58) starring as they reached 279-7 before declaring after 39-and-a-half overs.

Bates then took 4-3 and Frankie Vaz claimed 3-15 as Chippenham tore through the Marlborough order, skittling the hosts for a lowly 48.

In the Wiltshire Division, Great Bedwyn moved out of the drop zone with a 20-run win over Malmesbury, whilst Corsham were skittled for just 64 as they were battered by 262 runs at Bridgwater in Premier One.
