GOALKEEPER Wes Foderingham will be ready to lead Swindon Town out at Wembley if club captain Nathan Thompson fails to recover from his hamstring injury in time for the play-off final.

Foderingham has stressed the importance of his teammate to The Robins’ chances at the national stadium on Sunday and is hoping that Thompson is available for selection, after he limped off during the second leg against Sheffield United.

However, Swindon’s formidable keeper is ready – if asked – to lead the team out at Wembley and told the Advertiser that it would be one of the proudest moments in his career.

“First and foremost, I hope Nath is there on the pitch with us as he has been fantastic all season and he is our leader and our captain and we’re going to need him out there,” said Foderingham.

“The medical staff will do everything they can to make sure that he is on the pitch.

“There is no guarantee that if he doesn’t play I’m going to be the captain, but if I am then it will be fantastic for me on a personal note.

“I will try and do Nath’s job and prepare as best I can and help lead the boys on the pitch.”
