JOINT-BOSS Darran Walters admitted that he enjoyed his team’s eight-goal cracker at Wincanton Town, even if his Devizes Town came out on the wrong end of proceedings.

Robbie Mitchell cancelled out a Wincanton opener, only for the high-flying hosts to take a 2-1 lead into the break before extending their lead to 4-1.

Devizes’ Matt Lever headed against the post before Mitchell struck his second of the game but substitute Kieron Chivers turned the ball into his own net.

There was still time for top-scorer Mitchell to complete his hat-trick and Walters was left to reflect on a thriller in Somerset.

“It was a decent game. There wasn’t any animosity and there were no yellow cards,” said the Devizes co-chief.

“We had a lot of youngsters in the side again but we had a lot of the lads who are at uni back in the team because they were available.

“It was good to watch, even though we lost. We should have had a blatant throw-in before they scored their second goal but that’s sod’s law and one of those things."

Devizes are away at Cheddar this weekend before they finish their season with a daunting trip to champions-elect Barnstaple Town on May 2.

Walters added: "It is tough to get sides together because it's the end of the season and results won't make much difference on where we finish.

"It's hard but we''ll just have to get through the rest of the season."
