SAM Ricketts says Swindon Town do not need to alter their gameplan despite coming unstuck at home to relegated Yeovil Town.

Mark Cooper’s men dominated possession at the County Ground and had more than twice as many efforts on goal than the Glovers but still came off beaten.

This was the ultimate smash and grab win, with Yeovil barely threatening until James Berrett gave them a shock lead just before the hour.

The defeat means Town face an uphill battle in the race for automatic promotion from League One, with a place in the play-offs now looking increasingly likely.

Ricketts reckons there was no way that the Robins deserved to lose and thinks they must keep playing the same way in Tuesday’s game at home to Walsall.

“I don’t think you can criticise the performance, we controlled the game,” said loanee Ricketts.

“It wasn’t as if we have been peppered at goal, I think Wes (Foderingham) had two saves to make. One in the first half from a corner, which was actually a foul on Jon Obika, and then obviously the goal.

“I wouldn’t say we are gearing up for the play-offs. We’re gearing up for Tuesday, we’ve got another home game and we’ll be looking to go again.

“Ninety per cent of the performance was very good and generally if you take care of the performance the result will take care of itself but that just didn’t happen.

“If you control the game like we did you will win the vast majority of them. We’ve got another game on Tuesday and we’ll be looking to do the same.”

However, the Robins were hardly menacing themselves and failed to carve out clear-cut chances before Berrett’s goal.

Ricketts reckons that had they done that, it probably would have been enough.

He said: “There are games where it’s 50-50 where we have it then they have it, but we dominated the first half.

“They sat everyone behind the ball and made it very hard to break down. I’ve been on the other side of that in teams where you are just defending, and it gives you hope if you get to half time at 0-0 as you are halfway to what you want to achieve.

“When they got the goal it was more than they could have hoped for and gave them even more belief and optimism to try to hang on and see the game out.

“The way we try to play is we try to get the ball into our players in the hole. We try to get the ball into their feet but they nullified that space today and didn’t give us the opportunity to get it in there.

“I don’t think Walsall will come and be looking to park the bus like Yeovil did, so hopefully there will be a few more spaces to get our creative players on the ball and take it from there.”
