DEVIZES will play for the right to retain their Netball South West Regional League Three status in May after clinching a 58-51 victory over Tor Knights at Melksham Oak School.
Having endured a tough second season in the regional league, Devizes and their opponents knew that only a win would give them a chance to survive relegation and head to the play-offs.
Devizes got off to a flying start securing a 12-goal lead at the end of the first quarter after some fine periods of play led by captain Becki Gaiger.
The second quarter was much tighter with both sides making errors, Devizes coach Nikki Lloyd making one change by bringing on Louise Buller to add some height to defence.
Devizes held a 12-goal lead going into the final 15 but nerves and fatigue led to some errors creeping into their game.
A spirited Knights side rallied back to a four-goal margin but fine defensive turnovers at key moments and good play by Anna Molineaux at goal attack to score at vital times, supported by Emily Buller, who had the game of her season, secured the win.
Devizes play the county league winners on May 17 in Bristol to try and retain their league place.
