MILES Storey could be on course for another loan switch to a League Two club from Swindon Town instead of joining St Mirren.

Storey spent the first half of the season on loan at Portsmouth before returning to the County Ground early after being deemed surplus to requirements at Fratton Park.

The 21-year-old striker spent two days training with Scottish Premier League side St Mirren last week, ahead of a potential loan move for the remainder of the season, but that deal now looks to be off.

The Adver understands that if Storey moves anywhere it will be to League Two club, with both Newport County and Stevenage thought to be keen on securing his services.

A switch to Northampton Town remains a possibility, but that move is believed to be the least likely option for Storey.

The Cobblers were on the brink of signing Storey on a short-term deal last week only for the move to break down after the two clubs were unable to come to a financial agreement.

Northampton claimed they pulled out of the move after being asked to pay a weekly contribution higher than the striker’s actual weekly wage.

However, Swindon remain keen for Storey to get more first-team game time and another loan switch is thought to be close to being sealed.
