WITH their pitch at Trowbridge Cricket Club unplayable for a second time in three weeks, Trowbridge Rangers switched their Division Two clash to Beversbrook, home of opponents Calne Eagles.

For a third time in their last five matches Calne retrieved a two-goal deficit to earn a point.

On this occasion they came back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw against a Trowbridge Rangers side who had the best possible start when, after only six minutes, a fierce shot from Brad Butcher was deflected past keeper Andy Windsor off the shin of a Calne defender.

After this early lift Trowbridge went to dominate the first 25 minutes of the game and it took some resolute defending to keep home team at bay.

As the half drew on Calne composed themselves and they started to cause a few more problems to the Trowbridge backline, especially through striker Jake Goodwin, whose pace was always a threat.

But with 37 minutes on the clock Trowbridge increased their lead further when striker Will Jacomb scored his tenth goal of the season when he fired home though a crowded penalty area, after Calne had failed to clear a corner.

In the second half the game opened up and both teams really started to test each other out and created numerous good chances.

However, it was veteran striker Brett Cullen that started Calne’s comeback with 27 minutes remaining when he coolly finished off a superb team move from eight yards out.

With 17 minutes left the comeback was complete when a superb ball into the box from full back Lawrence Elliott was once again controlled by bustling striker Brett Cullen, who sidestepped two challenges to find the net with a composed left-footed finish.

Despite losing their lead Trowbridge never dropped their heads and in the closing stages they were twice denied a winner through great reaction saves from goalkeeper Andy Windsor who kept both Will Jacomb and Brad Butcher at bay.

At the other end Jake Goodwin and Calvin Bye were also denied by Trowbridge Keeper Karl Freeman. However, at the final whistle a draw was probably a fair result in what was a thoroughly entertaining contest.

Heytesbury who are having one of their best seasons in a very long time picked up another three points courtesy of a 3-1 triumph at home to relegation battlers Worton & Cheverell, who were unable to avenge their 4-0 loss in the reverse fixture from the end of November.

Leigh Kennedy was again the star man for Heytesbury, scoring all three goals in their win.

His first came on 11 minutes when he raced onto James Reeves defence splitting pass to fire his team in front.

On 16 minutes Heytesbury’s stand-in keeper Declan Griffiths produced a great double stop to deny Luke Chant an equaliser for Worton.

Worton however were on level terms a few minutes later, Griffiths again saved well and Tristan Wills cleared a Worton attack off the line but the ball fell kindly to Martin Dickinson who knock it home to make it 1-1.

Heytesbury retook the lead on 40 minutes, an excellent through ball from Luke Love picked out Kennedy who kept his calm to fire home his and his teams second of the game.

Leigh Kennedy completed the scoring midway through the second period with a delightful lob from 10 yards, but Heytesbury were again indebted to their keeper Griffiths who made a couple more fine stops to preserve his team's lead, including one blinding stop five minutes from time when he somehow denied Luke Hamblen a second for Worton.

Second in the table Westbury United were on the road away a fourth placed Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves, who were out to avenge they 5-1 loss from the start of December.

With Westbury looking to bounce back from their defeat at the hands of local rivals White Horse last weekend it made for an interesting contest and it was Westbury who thanks to a fine second half showing claimed a 6-2 win.

Adam Bishop scored from a free kick to give Westbury the early advantage.

A superb right-footed strike into the top corner from Mike Ritson got Wanderers back on level terms and another excellent long range finish from Ritson put Wanderers ahead.

Westbury got themselves back on level terms before half time, Ryan Earny scoring from the penalty spot to make it two apiece.

The second period saw Westbury quickly into their stride and Adam Bewley put them 3-2 up before Jack Parker made it 4-2.

Shane Newman ended an hopes Wanderers may have had from getting anything from the game and a second from Bewley put the icing on an excellent second-half showing from Matt Gardiner’s side.
