TRUSTSTFC has launched a new website as part of their quest to help bring new families and children back into the County Ground.

The Learn about Swindon Town website (www.learnaboutstfc.co.uk) supports the Trust vision theme of ‘Past, Present & Future’.

It offers pupils the chance to read about the history of the football club and also participate by sending in drawings, match reports and photographs that will get published, with the chance of winning a prize.

The supporters’ group have previously distributed Swindon Town promotional leaflets to primary schools and offered free ticket deals, but they see the new site as a vital step in getting young kids interested in their local club.

Trust chair Steve Mytton, who works in the IT industry and developed the site over Christmas period, said: “We’re hoping this will create a buzz in and around the schools and get the kids talking about Swindon Town more often.

“I involved my six year old son in the planning side and he was very excited about having his drawings and photos with the players published for others to see.”

Town boss Mark Cooper and club legend Don Rogers were on hand to lend support to the launch.

Rogers, the hero of Town’s classic 1969 League Cup final win, said: “I think it’s a fantastic initiative, and it can only help bring through the next generation of Town fans.”

Mike Welsh, vice-chair of the Trust, and headteacher at Goddard Park Primary School, added: “Our Schools Working Party will be focusing a lot of their activities around the website and it will be supplemented with regular newsletters that will be distributed throughout the schools.

“It’s really important for the kids to learn about the history of the club and also to have some way of interacting. I think the site will be very popular.”

Trust board member and fellow head teacher Simon Cowley, at the launch with his father Brian and two children Leon and Noah, said: “We represent three generations of Swindon Town fans, and the site will be a great way for us talk about all things Swindon Town.”

The Trust now plan to discuss sponsorship of the site, which in turn will provide funding to support other family-based initiatives.
