TOWN boss is fully expecting ‘Terminator’ Michael Smith to be available for the first XI this weekend against Fleetwood Town.

The 12-goal striker sat out Saturday’s win Peterborough having injured his shoulder in a collision with Raphael Branco last week in training.

Smith was named on the bench but did not play. Now, with the results of a scan having shown the Geordie to have bone bruising, his boss is fully expecting Smith to return to the side.

“Michael Smith is continuing to improve from the weekend,” said Cooper. “It’s the same shoulder but a totally different place. He’s had a scan and it’s a different part of the shoulder.

“He has got bone bruising to the bottom of his shoulder blade after falling flat on his back. His last one was more on the top of his shoulder.

“We’re very hopeful that he’ll be available to play on Saturday.”

Smith earned a reputation as somewhat of a hard man at the squad’s pre-season army training camp and Cooper was quick to rebuff the idea that his injuring the same shoulder twice suggested there was anything less than tough about his striker.

The Town boss quipped: “Having seen him at the army camp I don’t think there’s anything fragile about him they dont't call him the Terminator for nothing.”
