DEVIZES were left to reflect on another South West One East defeat and a few positives as Newbury ran out winners at London Road.

The home side started well, appearing to win the battle at the breakdown, while their defence repelled Newbury attacks.

The visitors won a scrum against the head just after the half-hour mark and loosehead Ben Hicks crashed over for a converted score.

The second half continued in the same vein, the visitors maintaining territory and possession and putting Devizes under pressure in the scrum.

Mark Warburton, Josh Lewis and Craig Bryant all put in big hits to stop Newbury from scoring but, despite further defensive efforts, visiting number eight Eddie Farebrother bundled over from short range.

Bryant then was sent to the sin-bin for an offence at the breakdown on the five-metre line and Newbury duly exploited the one man advantage with a further converted try.

Devizes rallied with good breaks from James Gaiger, Jo Alford and Lewis Paget but were unable to break their duck.
