SWINDON Town are still in talks over extending Harry Toffolo’s loan from Norwich City, as the deal expires after Saturday’s visit to Peterborough.

The 19-year-old has started Town’s last three games and impressed in Saturday’s win over local rivals Bristol City.

The left-sided defender is enjoying his spell with the club and is understood to be keen to extend his stay in Wiltshire where he is gaining valuable first-team experience.

Toffolo’s current deal runs out on November 22, meaning he can play at London Road, but as things stand after that he would return to the Canaries.

With Amari’i Bell as the only direct back-up and Brad Smith’s return dependent on matters in Liverpool, Town are keen on extending Toffolo’s loan.

Town chairman Lee Power confirmed the club are in talks to keep Toffolo but stressed nothing has been confirmed yet, he said: “We are trying and are talking to Norwich at the moment but nothing’s been confirmed, so we don’t actually know yet,’’ he told the Swindon Advertiser.

“The manager’s dealing with it, we are trying to get it done but I don’t know when it will be confirmed.”

Swindon chief Mark Cooper has been impressed by Toffolo and the way youngster has handled the step up to first team football, adding that the club are looking into the possibilty of extending his deal to the next transfer window and possibly further.

"We're exploring the possibility of keeping him longer as he's grown into the position, grown into the role. You can see how much he enjoyed Saturday," said Cooper.

"Coming from playing development football into a pressure cooker environment like that, he's realising what mens and first team football is all about. I'm sure he'll sort of go back to Norwich and tell his mates how good an atmosphere it was.

"He wants to stay and we're trying to get that one done. It's a youth loan we can keep him until his 21st birthday, so he's my reckoning he's 19 so we should be able to keep as long as we want, I think we can keep him until the next window and then extend it from there."

Elsewhere Yaser Kasim, who scored his first goal for Iraq yesterday will return to training with Swindon Town this week.

Iraq do have at least one more fixture left in their Gulf Cup campaign. The Iraqis are currently bottom of their group but can still qualify for the tournament's latter stages if they win their final game with the UAE.

However the remainder of the tournament falls outside the FIFA international window and Kasim is required to return to Swindon.

Fellow Town midfielder Massimo Luongo played 64 minutes in Australia's 2-1 defeat in Japan this morning.

Meanwhile, Bristol City have appealed Wade Elliott’s sending off from Saturday’s derby defeat.
