SWINDON Wildcats D-man Shane Moore knows Wightlink Raiders will have a huge home advantage when Swindon head there in the Challenge Cup.

The trip has been likened to an FA Cup tie when a Premier League team have to make the unenviable trip to a non-league side.

Planet Ice, in Ryde, is half the size of the rink that Swindon are used to at the Link Centre, so Moore knows his side must be mentally switched on all game.

“For anyone who hasn’t been to their rink before, it is about half the size of the Link Centre, so that will be fun for sure,” Moore said.

“We’ve got to go there with the same mentality we go into any game with. They’re going to be a good team and they have home rink advantage of the best kind.

“They are going to know the angles of the boards and where to shoot from but we still should be winning those games.

“I think this weekend is a good opportunity for us to gain some confidence, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves.”

Swindon go into the game on the back of a much-needed win.

They came from two-goals down to beat Milton Keynes Lightning 5-4 in overtime on Wednesday but Moore admits it was far from the perfect performance.

“I still don’t think we played well on Wednesday but I am pleased we got the monkey off our back and finally got a home win. Not only for ourselves but also for our home fans,” added Moore.

“There is still a lot to work on. I don’t think we started well at all but we finished strong and got the points.

“The thing is, with any sport you get yourself into a mentality of ‘we can’t do it’.

“We’ve had it here before with penalty shoot-outs, where I think we went 12 games in penalty shoot- outs without a win and it does get in your head, so it is nice to break that now and realise we can win at home and make this place a fortress.”

Swindon could welcome back a familiar face this weekend after re-signing Jonas Hoog this week.

Moore is pleased to have the Swede back in the side and hopes the competition for places will make sure everyone gives 100 per cent in every game.

“I think it is good signing for us,” said Moore.

“Jonas currently hasn’t got a team and Jonas is familiar to us already from the last couple of years and should slot naturally into the line-up.

“He brings a bit more depth, which is always crucial, and it also makes guys fight for their places and at the end of the day, somebody is going to have to sit out, out of the imports.”
