DESPITE club skipper Alan Griffin celebrating his substitute appearance with a 91st-minute goal, Chippenham had already squandered a glut of chances while Redditch converted twice from a handful of chances in each half to record a league double over the Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds wasted a dozen first-half opportunities, with Luke Ballinger’s long shot flying past a post and another effort being cleared off the line.

A long throw by Michael Pook into the box saw Jordan Roberts glance a header wide whilst a strong run by Conor McCormack ended with his blistering drive being touched over the bar by Sam Hornsby.

Redditch took the lead against the run of play on 20 minutes when the home defence hesitated over a long ball leaving home keeper Kent Kauppinen trying to head clear, but his poor clearance was seized upon by Jermaine Hylton who blasted the ball into the net.

The Bluebirds' James Guthrie and Michael Pook both failed with efforts before the interval.

After the break, Kauppinen made a good save to deny Redditch skipper Ashley Sammons. But Redditch doubled their lead 20 minutes from time when Sammons' hanging cross was powerfully headed home by substitute Jamie Spencer.

Kauppinen then saved Chippenham when he bravely dived to take the ball off Spencer's toes whilst Guthrie's shot was beaten away by Hornsby.

In stoppage time, Griffin halved the deficit but it was too little too late for Chippenham.
