FC CHIPPENHAM Youth manager Nigel Tripp is hoping that his young players will carry on making the grade in the Wiltshire League.

Chippenham currently find themselves third in the Premier Division table after stretching their unbeaten run to six games with a 1-0 victory over local rivals Corsham Town Reserves last Saturday.

Will Giles was Johnny-on-the-spot to tap home the winner after good work from James Brown midway through the first half and Tripp was more than happy to bestow a glowing early-season report upon his up and coming side.

“We’ve started really well and hopefully we can keep it going,” said the Chippenham chief.

“We’ve been really good defensively but it has been hard having a consistent side because of the way we’re set up.

“We’re all about bringing those young players through and trying to get them ready to play for Chippenham Park or even the first team (Chippenham Town).

“The only way to see if a new player is up to the standard is to throw them straight in to see how they get on and we’re usually the first place to go to for that.

“So it is a bit of a juggling thing but hopefully we can carry on getting results in the league.”

Chippenham have notched up five victories during their unbeaten spell and are at home to Supermarine Sports next weekend.

Meanwhile, league leaders Melksham Town Reserves maintained their grip on top spot by extending their own undefeated run to nine matches with a 5-2 win over Malmesbury Victoria.

Devizes Town Reserves remain fourth in the table, despite falling to a 4-3 defeat at the hands of second-placed Ludgershall Sports, whilst Wilts Calne Town got back to winning ways by thrashing Vale of Pewsey 4-0.

Marlborough Town were beaten 6-3 by Supermarine whilst Wootton Bassett Town Development’s trip to Trowbridge Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
